Seventh Week in Ordinary Time
“I believe, Lord, help my unbelief.” Mk. 9:14-29
Today Mark brings us the story of the healing of a demoniac, it is about a child possessed by a spirit that hurts him, and his desperate father asks Jesus to heal his son, since his disciples have not been able to help him. When Jesus hears of it, He complains about the unbelief of that generation, even more so when Jesus hears the father’s hesitant plea; “If you can do anything, have compassion on us, help us,” Jesus replies: “If I can? All things are possible to those who have faith,” which makes the father react and cry out; “I believe, Lord, help my unbelief.” An expression that today many of us could also cry out to Jesus: “Increase my faith.” Let us also ask Jesus to teach us to pray in order to know how to face so many evils of this world.
