Sixth Week in Ordinary Time

“You are the Messiah.” Mk. 8:27-33

In today’s Gospel, we see Jesus interested in making his disciples clear about his identity, in instructing them about what the Son of Man has to suffer in order to carry out his mission. After listening to what people say about him, without them getting his identity right, He asks his disciples: “Who do you say that I am?” Peter knows how to identify him and says: “You are the Messiah”. Once this answer is confirmed, Jesus begins the proclamation of his passion, death and resurrection, which will be very difficult for them to assimilate. As humanly happens to all of us when we are presented with situations of pain and suffering, it is difficult for us to accept it. Let us imagine, then, how much love God has for us, choosing this way of the cross to give us salvation. Am I willing to risk my life for Jesus and his Kingdom?
