“They ask for a sign.” Mk. 8:11-13
Mark tells us about an event in which the unbelieving Pharisees continue to harass Jesus. They want to tempt him, and they ask him for a sign from heaven, something that confirms to them that He is the Messiah. But Jesus, who knows their thoughts and intentions, does not allow himself to be tempted, He knows that there is deception in their request, it is an ill-intentioned request, that is why He decides not to give them what they ask for. Jesus does not want us to follow him because of the extraordinary things He can do, but because He is who He is: God made man, who teaches us that greatness is in poverty and humility, in love and service, in faith and hope. Today we could also ask ourselves: Who is Jesus for me? Have I ever demanded signs from Jesus? How great is my faith?
