Fourth Week in Ordinary Time
“Do not be afraid; only believe.” Mk. 5:21-43
Mark brings us on this day, the experience of faith lived by a man named Jairus, a ruler of the synagogue, who prostrating himself at his feet begs Jesus so that his daughter does not die and that of a woman who needs to be healed of a long illness. In the face of the extraordinary faith that these two people had, Jesus’ expressions are of comfort and encouragement: “Do not be afraid; only believe” and of great admiration “Daughter, your faith has saved you. Go in peace and be cured of your sickness.” Today, these words of Jesus are an invitation to stand firm in love for God and to trust fully in his mercy. In the face of life’s adversities, in the face of the impossible, hope must always shine, that light that only faith can ignite and transcend to a new reality.
