Can the wedding guests fast while the bridegroom is with them?

Once again Jesus faces the judgment of religious leaders.  The Pharisees note that Jesus’ disciples do not fast as do those of John and the Pharisees.  Jesus simply responds that the wedding guests cannot fast while the bridegroom is there.  Taking the gospels in their totality, we learn clearly that Jesus does not measure religiosity by laws and regulations but rather by love.  Moreover, Jesus speaks of new wine and new clothes, not simply patching the old, which, as he notes, will not work anyway.  May we be people who measure all in love.
