I am the voice of one crying out in the wilderness
John the Baptist is being questioned by the priests and Levites sent from Jerusalem. When asked who he was, John first answered by simply saying who he was not. Confused, they continued to present other names, but John, true to his call, declares that he was none of the prophets presented. Finally, he points more directly to his mission: to be the voice crying out in the desert to make straight the way of the Lord. When we reflect on how John described himself, let us ask ourselves how we would answer that question. Are we fully living the call to be a voice calling out in the wilderness?
