Friday 22nd

“My house is a house of gathering and prayer.” Lk. 19:45-48

Jesus is finishing his mission, and there in Jerusalem, He again energetically, by force and with anger, questions what the temple has become. He takes the people out, making them realize that it is the evil spirit that is present: they are not treating the temple as a house of fraternal encounter and, even less, of prayer.

The teachers of the law speak, they know a lot, but they have no authority, they have had no experience of God. They lack mercy, they exclude others, judge and condemn them, especially the poorest. Jesus denounces the corruption of the religious system, making it clear that greed and ambition have no place in God’s plan. Today, too, we are invited to examine the consistency of our faith.

Does my faith become, as it should, a life that is expressed by a compassionate mercy, with prayer that compels me go out of myself to serve others?
