Friday 18     Luke 10:1-9 “Pray the Lord of the harvest to send laborers into his field.”

Today the liturgy brings us the feast of Saint Luke, the evangelist who throughout this month has been presenting Jesus to us on his way to Jerusalem. Luke only knew Jesus through Paul’s preaching, but his fascination with Him was such that he set out to inquire as much as possible about Jesus, his origin, his life until the end and even after the Resurrection. Thanks to him we also have the stories of the childhood of Jesus, and we know better the role of Mary in this story. Thanks to him we also know about the marvelous accounts in the Acts of the Apostles, the zeal with which the first disciples of Jesus preached the Good News to the ends of the earth. Today, as we read again the text of the sending of the 72, let us ask Luke to make echo in us the words of Jesus’ urgent sending to those men when He said to them: “The harvest is plentiful, and the laborers are few, ask the Lord of the harvest to send laborers into his field.”
