“My mother and my brothers are the ones who hear the Word of God and fulfill it.” (Luke 8:19-21)
Luke’s Gospel makes us see the birth of a new family when Jesus is told that “his mother and brothers are out there and want to see him.” Jesus, at that moment, is teaching his disciples and other people who are crowded at the door, making it impossible for Mary and her relatives to go near to where He was. Jesus lives a special moment of which He takes advantage to make everyone aware of what is emerging among them as a fruit of his Word… a new sibling relationship… a new family where everyone is included. That is why Jesus ends by saying, “My mother and my brothers are those who hear the word of God and do it.”
