August 30 (Matt. 25:1-13)

August 30 (Matt. 25:1-13)

“The bridegroom is coming, come out to meet him!”

Be ready at all times!  This is the message in the parable of the ten virgins. This unexpected delay of the bridegroom happens in our own lives.  We never know when we might encounter Christ.  If we are not aware or fail to learn how to be perceptive, we become like the five foolish virgins who lack vigilance.

Like the five virgins, we need to tend to our spiritual lamps with prayer, the sacraments, and the good works we perform.  To be one of the wise virgins, we must be diligent and intentional about the building of the kingdom while we wait for Christ.  We cannot get lax and distracted by other things. When the bridegroom comes, may our lamps be filled with the oil of a vibrant spiritual life.
