Birth of Saint John the Baptist
“Do not be afraid, Zechariah, for your prayer has been heard.” Luke 1:14
Today’s Gospel introduces us to Zechariah, a righteous and upright man, who walked blamelessly in all the commandments and precepts of the Lord. The angel Gabriel appeared to him to announce that his wife, Elizabeth, would give birth to a son despite her advanced age and sterility. And how does Zechariah react? With hesitation, he doesn’t believe. It seemed impossible to him that what he had heard was true.
Yes, that’s right; We see how, despite being a righteous man and a follower of all the commandments, he lacks faith…faith in God’s omnipotence, faith in God’s will. Today there are also many “Zechariahs” who live without believing either in God or in their brothers and sisters.
When you ask God for something, how do you react when that promise takes time to fulfill?
