The Sacred Heart of Jesus

“My heart is moved.” Hosea 11:8

Today we celebrate the Great Friday of the Sacred Heart of Jesus. The heart is a sign of love, of self-giving, of salvation. It is a sign of the Father’s presence in the Son. It is a Heart that welcomes human frailty with compassion and mercy.

Contemplating the Heart of Christ, we discover the greatness of God’s plan for humanity. For the Father “so loved the world that he gave his only Son to it, that whoever believes in him should not die but have eternal life.”

This is what Jesus has taught us throughout his life: his compassion for those who were hurting; his sadness in the face of pain; his mercy that welcomes sinners; his self-sacrifice for the sin of the world.

Through the Word, may we know more about the heart of Jesus and reveal it in gestures and words.
