Wednesday, May 1: “He who abides in me and I in him bears abundant fruit” (Jn. 15:5).

We are witnessing the farewell of Jesus who encourages his disciples to remain in him, to bear abundant fruit. Today we celebrate the Feast of Saint Joseph the Worker, and we remember that Jesus was the adopted son of Joseph. Isn’t this the carpenter’s son? Joseph, Jesus, and all of us, we are all laborers in different parts of the Kingdom. The secret of abundant fruit is communion with Jesus. On May 15 we will be culminating the celebration of the 75th anniversary of the canonization of Jeanne de Lestonnac. Thankful for the gift of her life, we will pray these days in remembrance of her legacy. After 417 years, she continues to be present in her Company, in her friends, strengthening a faith whose roots also touch ours. Jeanne is among the witnesses whom we want to contemplate every day in order to bear abundant fruit.
