“I Have Come into the World as Light”

The passage of the Gospel that is proposed to us today for prayer can be a call to become aware of and appreciate the way in which Jesus presented himself in the world: He did not come to judge, but to save. He did not carry out his mission from a stance of power, but “from below, from within, from up close.” And the fact is that He Himself did not feel that He was the owner of the message, but that He was the Word of the Father who sent him.

God, who made us free, respects our freedom, but offers us a way, and does not leave us in the dark. “I have come into the world as light,” Jesus says. Light is offered, not imposed. In prayer today, let us ask for the grace to open ourselves to the light, and let us pray that all evangelizers and the Church may live their mission without judging or condemning, but rather as a task of proposing, inviting, listening, accompanying.
