Fullness of life for all
In the tradition of good shepherds, there were clear and simple customs for taking care of the sheep. At night they were brought into the fold, and when they were brought out the next day, they had to go through a gate to recognize them by name and count them, and then the shepherd walked with them. In today’s Gospel, Jesus wants to reveal to his disciples what He has come for and uses the image of the Good Shepherd who knows and cares for his sheep. But reality surpasses all comparison: life is the greatest gift we have ever received, we already have it, but Jesus comes to give us the possibility of living it to the fullest. “I have come that all may have life and have it abundantly.”
