“He is alive. Of that, we are witnesses.”
When Jesus died, He left no goods, no children, no books or important documents… He left behind a group of friends who, as they proclaimed the Good News they had witnessed, formed communities, making it possible for Jesus’ message to transcend time and space and reach us. The liturgy of the Easter Season invites us to read and pray about those beginnings of what we now call “the Church.” Revisiting the beginnings is something that always gives a lot of life.
Today we begin with the first preaching of Peter, clothed with the Spirit of the Risen Jesus. He does not shy away from the implausible and dangerous message of Jesus’ resurrection, nor does he mince words in pointing the finger at the murderers. Be amazed today in prayer at the transformation that the Spirit wrought in the Peter we know in the Gospel and join in the joy of the women of the Dawn, of whom today’s Gospel speaks, when Jesus makes them proclaimers of the Good News to the disciples.
