JOHN 11:45-57

“THEY DECIDED TO KILL JESUS.”

Jesus knows that not everyone likes His way of working, yet He continues His mission. He is not afraid of what is coming, nor of being criticized by the powerful because He has not come to ingratiate Himself with them, but to liberate those whom they oppressed. That is why He lovingly accepts the sentence that weighs upon him, in order to save us all from death and sin.

In the council of the Sanhedrin, the High Priest Caiaphas pronounces a sentence: Jesus must die for the people to save the nation from the Romans.

As we read this Gospel, our hearts are overwhelmed because they decide to kill Jesus, even though they know and see that He does good: He heals the blind, makes the crippled walk, makes the mute speak, frees people’s hearts from all oppression.

The Lord invites us not to remove the cross from our path because what is presented as devastating can have a liberating meaning.
