MONDAY 18

JOHN 8:1-11

“NOR DO I CONDEMN YOU.”

The scholars and Pharisees were looking for an opportunity to set a trap for Jesus so they would have something to accuse him of. They didn’t care about this poor woman’s situation, they just wanted to apply the law above all else. But Jesus unmasks them by confronting them with their own sin, then they must go away ashamed. The woman finally comes face to face with Jesus, who goes beyond the law and works with mercy, saying to her, “Neither do I condemn you.” Through the text, Jesus invites us today to look at ourselves and others with his eyes, only in this way will we be able to forgive ourselves and forgive others, to act with mercy and stop judging. It is so easy to judge our brother or sister, but if we make an effort and ask the Lord for grace to see ourselves clearly and to look at others with compassion, we will achieve this little by little.  When have we come face to face with Jesus?
