Simon Peter answered, “You are the Messiah, the Son of the living God.” (Mt. 16:13-19)
In this Gospel passage, the question that Jesus asks his apostles is also for us: Who do we say that Jesus is?  To the people, to others, to the children we teach, to the young people, to those who work with us on a daily basis…Who do we say Jesus is?  If others saw only our testimony, who would they say Jesus is for us? In the neighborhood, who do my neighbors say Jesus is according to our life, our testimony?

So, along with the personal answer of who Jesus is for each of us, it is good to ask if we carry in our lives the stigmata of tenderness, of compassion, of forgiveness, of Jesus…if we look at life with his eyes…if our words bring peace to others…if we love one another as family…if we live a sacramental life that extends into daily life…if we live a sacramental life that extends into daily life, treating others as Jesus himself would.

Let us allow the question to resound: Who do you say that I am? It is a question that should motivate all of us who are involved in the “matters of God” to review the testimony of Jesus that we give to others.
