Ash Wednesday, February 14

When you pray, retire to your room, shut the door, and pray to your Father who is unseen.”

Mt. 6:1-6,16-18)

Lent invites us to take a general look at our way of life, to reorganize ourselves in relation to God (prayer), to our brothers and sisters (almsgiving), to ourselves (fasting).
“Little storage space; Some system features may not be available” …  This is a message that often appears on cell phones. Then we start to delete those superfluous memories, apps that we don’t use, videos, photos, audios that we have already seen or heard and are not interested in storing…

“It is possible that similar messages also appear in our lives: you are very full of superficial things, of vain memories, of routines that you do not need, of methods that tire you, that you came to because you believed that they helped life and now they are hindrances…

Today is one of those days when life tells us: we have to get rid of many things that occupy the memory, the heart, the soul; a little reset and return, if possible, to the configuration of origin, the one in which we had peace, in which God, his things, occupied a good part of our projects, desires, dreams.” (Sergio E. Valdez Sauad: Daily Gospel from Monday to Saturday)
