“Nothing outside a person can defile them by going into them. Rather, it is what comes out of a person that defiles them.” (Mk. 7:14-23)

Today’s Gospel leads us to take a look within. Many of the evils that we suffer from and that cause us to be in conflict with ourselves and with others are the things that come from within, that come from the heart. This is what Jesus tells us in the Gospel.

It is a long list of concrete and clear things that Jesus tells us and that we cannot pretend not to understand.

How am I interiorly? What is my heart full of? “Out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaks”. Today’s Gospel invites us to be attentive to our words, to our actions that reflect our interiority.

We have to take good care of our interiority, we have to protect it like the space that has to be filled with God.
