“Jesus called the Twelve and sent them out two by two… And He commanded them to take nothing but a staff with them on the way” (Mk. 6:7-13)

The Gospel of Mark shows us how Jesus chooses the twelve and sends them out to preach  two by two. It is the minutest expression of a communitarian, synodal representation, where peace must be expressed in deeds and words. Jesus fully associates his disciples with his mission, making them sharers in his life and in what He proclaims. He gives them precise instructions on how to behave and what they should take with them, attesting to a style of poverty. The simple support of a walking stick to go through the rough path that can be found. To be content with what they are offered. A real challenge, too, for our days in a society that presents us with other lifestyles and needs that we have practically made our own.

Let us accept Jesus’ invitation to make – in his company – a journey from the apparent to the authentic, leaving behind so many securities that condition our following as He offers us.
