“Speak, O Lord, for your servant hears You” 1 Sam. 3:1-20
Samuel is a young man who serves in the temple, along with Eli, a wise old man. It is at the moment of rest that God manifests himself and calls Samuel, but the young man does not distinguish the voice and confuses it with Eli’s, so on three occasions he stands in front of Eli, who tells him what he must answer when he is called again: “Speak, Lord, for your servant hears.” Eli understands the message and the circumstance that surrounds it, he identifies that it is God who calls Samuel. Listening requires a habit and we need to be guided in hearing; especially when we are young, we need to be taught to listen. Let us ask for the grace to learn the art of listening and thus dispose our hearts to do God’s will.
