Jesus approaches us with a new parable: The fig tree whose shoots announce the approach of summer. This sign is well known among peasants who are accustomed to contemplating plants and interpreting the prosperity or not of the fruits to come. Thus, we too must sharpen our gaze and grow in contemplation in order to be able to recognize in this moment of history that we are living, that God is present. It is only necessary to look carefully and read the signs of the times.
The Gospel tells us that when we see all this, the Kingdom of Heaven is at hand, Jesus assures us. Can we perceive it that way? What signs tell us about it?
A little over a month ago, the first part of Synod on Synodality concluded. Is this a sign of the kingdom’s presence among us?
Let us walk trusting in that promise of Jesus, He renews our hope, and together let us make possible that kingdom of God that invites us to live as brothers and sisters.
