Mk. 12:1-12 “They realized that Jesus had spoken the parable for them.”
Jesus has just had one of those encounters with the teachers of the law who reproach him for his way of acting in favor of the person even above what the law said. This time they question him about his authority to do so, to which Jesus does not answer directly. Mark then presents the parable of the unfaithful tenants that we find in today’s Gospel and that ends with those words of Psalm 117 that say: “The stone that the builders rejected has become a foundation stone, this was made by the Lord and it is marvelous in our eyes”. Let us read this parable carefully and see if Jesus also says something to us, his followers today, whom he has called to work for the extension of his Kingdom, and let us ask ourselves: how are we administering that part of the Kingdom that he has entrusted to us?
