“And I will do whatever you ask in my name.” Jn. 14:7-14

The text proposed today ends with an announcement: “he who believes in me will do the works that I do, even greater ones”; and a promise: “If you ask for anything in my name, I will do it.” Jesus wants to tell us that there is a deep connection between him and those who believe in him, to such an extent that they will do his works.  All Jesus accomplished was His way of expressing His love for us. That was his only motivation to live among us; to teach, to cure, to give himself unto death. To believe in Jesus, then, is to assimilate his traits and criteria in our lives. Faith in him must lead us to love ourselves in his own way and, therefore, to carry out actions born of love, like his. That connection with Jesus will translate into a one-on-one communication with him. Can there be anything better?
