Lk. 17:5-10: “Increase our faith”

Today the apostles represent us all, with a very simple and profound plea: “Lord, increase our faith”. They do not ask Jesus for more strength, more success, or more assurances, but they ask for faith. They know that without faith it is impossible to follow the Master on his path of service, forgiveness and self-giving.

Jesus responds with a surprising image: a faith the size of a mustard seed is enough to do the impossible. It is not the quantity that matters, but the strength of trust. Many times we think that having faith is having absolute certainties, but no, it is trusting that God is with us, even if sometimes we do not understand everything, even if what we carry inside is small and fragile. Like the seed, the essential thing is that it is alive.

Faith is humble and although small, it can move mountains because it rests on the trust that God walks with us. Faith is demonstrated in service, in daily life, in silent self-giving, in loving without expecting recognition. How strongly do we ask the Lord to increase our faith?
