Wednesday, October 1: Saint Teresa of the Child Jesus

Lk. 9:57-62: “I will follow you wherever you go.”

Following Jesus implies accepting instability and total surrender, without depending only on human securities. He reminds us that to follow Him is to accept that our true security is in God, not in material things or prestige. Inner freedom is one of the characteristics of a follower of Jesus, because one of the temptations that the consumer society presents to us is to have and trust the means.

The Kingdom of God requires a dedication without nostalgia, which slows down the path, it requires radicalism, an initial enthusiasm is not enough; it requires hope, perseverance and a willingness to lose security.

In our daily lives, this call implies being willing to step out of those toxic comforts and attachments that prevent us from following and serving the Kingdom that is of freedom. It means engaging in demanding service, supporting the just cause of Jesus, or saying “yes” to a call that upends our plans.
