SAINT IGNATIUS OF LOYOLA

THE KINGDOM OF HEAVEN IS LIKE A NET… Matthew 13:47-53

In the last parable of the Kingdom of Heaven, it is like a net, which catches fish of all kinds. The Kingdom is a proposal for everyone, in it we all fit. But it never ceases to amaze us how harsh the language is in speaking of the separation between the good and bad fish, and that it refers to the idea of a final judgment on our life. However, although the idea of this judgment is present in the parable, let us not forget that the One who judges is the God of mercy. For this reason, the word never invites us to fear but to become aware of what our response is to the free offer of the Kingdom, what is our commitment in following Jesus. The one who discovers the Kingdom is filled with happiness, but at the same time he recognizes that a lot is required of him: to divest himself of everything that keeps him anchored in the earth.

To this we are invited, each one of us: to listen to the word, to welcome, to understand, to discern, within the network, the ways of the Kingdom that God offers us.
