August 14 (Matt 18: 15-20)

If your brother listens to you, you have saved him.

St. Teresa of Calcutta once said, “If we have no peace, we have forgotten that we belong to each other.”  Today’s gospel reminds us of our responsibility.  In this case, it is to call one another to greater holiness by a willingness to confront when I or another has committed some fault.  Ultimately, Jesus institutes the sacrament of penance by giving the authority to forgive sins which then brings healing to the community.

Our responsibility also includes prayer as community.  We are to join one another to pray for specific needs, trusting that the Father will be present and hear our pray.  When we are gathered together in prayer, remember we enter into the mystery of community.
