“Be prepared.” Matthew 24:42-51
Saint Monica
Jesus speaks of two stewards, one faithful and one wicked, as a criticism of the leaders of Israel; but the parable is also a warning to everyone: as we await the coming of the Lord, He invites us to have the attitude of the faithful steward. Matthew’s community no longer expected an imminent coming, and perhaps that is why it began to relax; but the Lord will come, and the date is the least of it. What matters is to live attentively and always be prepared. Does that definitive coming have anything to do with our present life? Does this warning help us to wake up from our drowsiness?
