“Are you envious because I am generous?” Mt. 20;1-16

The parable of the workers in the vineyard disconcerts us because it breaks our human logic of merit and reward. God does not act as a master who calculates the hours of work, but as an immensely generous Father who desires to give to all, even the least, the fullness of his grace. His justice is always surpassed by his mercy. Let us ask ourselves: does it fill us with envy or resentment to see the good in others or to feel that God blesses those we judge “less worthy”? His generosity surpasses ours and invites us to gratuitousness, let us ask him to help us discover how to sincerely rejoice in the achievements of others. Let us act with selfless generosity towards those who arrive late or are most in need.
