“His mother, his mother’s sister, stood by Jesus’ cross…” Jn. 19:25-27

Today we remember Our Lady of Sorrows. Mary stands by the cross, she does not flee from the suffering of her Son but accompanies him with unwavering and silent fidelity. In that moment of maximum darkness, Jesus gives her to us as a mother, expanding her heart to welcome all humanity in the person of the beloved disciple. Do we dare to stand by the crosses of those who suffer in our society today? Together with Mary’s tender protection, let us ask her and her Son to help us discover who today needs our silent and supportive company. Let us welcome others as true brothers and sisters. Are we open people who allow themselves to be surprised by God’s grace?
