“With eternal love I loved you.” Jeremiah 31:1-7
Jeremiah gives us a hymn to hope: to rediscover our original beauty, even when lack of purpose, the presence of violence or illness obscure the path. In the darkness there is always a light, because the human being is not a laboratory project, but an explosion of God’s irrepressible love: “I have loved you with an everlasting love… you will plant vines again.” Jeremiah invites us to strive to open in the hearts of those around us the certainty that He is always there, that evil or sin or pain do not have the last word; above all that, and in spite of all that, God is always there to lift up and beautify. We have a covenant with the God of life!
