“I believe that you are the Messiah, the Son of God.” John 11:19-27.
Saints Martha, Mary, and Lazarus.
Today’s liturgy invites us to remember Martha, Mary and Lazarus, a home where Jesus took the opportunity to proclaim the Good News and also to create bonds of closeness, friendship and fraternity. John reminds us: “If we love one another, God abides in us”, this is how Jesus lived it with this family. But we find ourselves with the second part of what it means to follow and live in the style of Jesus; give of oneself generously for friends. Martha says to Jesus, “If you had been here, my brother would not have died.” And Jesus responds to her with the power of the mystery of life, he is not dead: “Whoever believes in me, even if he dies, will live”. The resurrection is the final message, what gives meaning to our lives. Are we life force, for our friends, when they go through situations of death?
