“Sell everything you have and buy the field.” Matthew 13:44-52.

This Sunday’s Gospel is a call to the tireless search for the greatest treasure: “The Kingdom of God”. The parables narrated in this Gospel confront us with the options with which the world seduces us today: the superficial, the temporary, where the important thing is to appear and not to remain available for mission. On the contrary, Jesus’ proposal with these parables is to leave all attachments, dependencies, disordered affections, “sell everything” and buy the treasure, the essential, what gives deep meaning to life; the Kingdom of God and His righteousness, everything else is relative. Seeking God does not produce sadness or bitterness; on the contrary, it generates joy and peace, because the person begins to discover where true happiness lies. Let us remember St. Augustine: “Only that which makes a person good can make him/her happy.” In what way do we cultivate the interior life, to be attentive to God’s surprise?
