“I did not come to bring peace, but a sword.” Matthew 10:34-11, 1.
In Matthew’s Gospel we find Jesus’ repeated invitation to follow him without conditions, and in generosity. “Whoever does not take up his cross to follow me is not worthy of me.” Following Jesus has difficulties and generates conflict both internally and socially. “I have not come to bring peace, but the sword.” In announcing the Kingdom prophetically, when fighting for justice against oppression and corruption, conflicts are inevitable; This is the challenge that overcomes all fear and challenges us until we lose our lives. “Whoever clings to life will lose it; whoever loses his life for me, will keep it.” Is our life a tireless wearing out for the proclamation of the Kingdom?
