Mk. 12:38-44  “He gave out of his poverty what he had to live on”

After Jesus’ tense encounters with the Chiefs of the Jews, Mark ends this Chapter 12 with a simple and very eloquent scene; Jesus, sitting quietly in front of the coffers of the temple, observes: only He is going to discover and value, in the middle of a line of rich Jews who deposited large amounts of what they had left over, a poor woman who timidly looks for a basket where she can deposit 2 small coins that was all she had to live. His moving gesture in the eyes of Jesus contains a great teaching: only the poor who know what it is to lack, what it is to share with those who need it most even what they have to live on, can teach us true solidarity; These are gestures that normally occur only in the world of the poor and that is why we say with truth that they evangelize us.
