JESUS CHRIST THE ETERNAL HIGH PRIEST.
“My Father, if this cup cannot pass away without my drinking it, Thy will be done.”
Mt. 26:36-42
Today’s texts forcefully affirm that the man of faith, in love with his God, is permanently ready to please him. Abraham does not hesitate to sacrifice his son, because he believes that this is what the Lord wants. The psalmist says, “You do not want sacrifices or offerings, but here I am to do your will.” Finally, Jesus, anguished by an absolutely painful death that is already coming, places himself in the hands of his Father, in a total surrender to his Will. This is how Jesus our Eternal High Priest is: He puts himself in our place and obtains for us the greatest of blessings: salvation, reconciliation, adoption as beloved children of his Father. Let us pause today to contemplate his dedication; that from him we may learn to seek and find the Father’s will.
