“May they be one like us, so that the world may believe that You have sent me.”
Jn. 17:20-26
John’s texts continue to lead us to listen to what Jesus says to the Father. He insistently asks for our unity with him and with the Father; and unity among us, their friends. Jesus asks for unity in his prayer, because it is not the fruit of our effort, since we are inconsistent , because of the clash of temperaments, our different cultural origins, the different ways of thinking and seeing things, our pride and selfishness. Being united will be the witness that we will give, so that others may believe, so that they may recognize that we belong to Jesus, to inspire them with the desire to know him, to feel loved by God in Jesus. Building fraternity and unity is our mission, the testimonial of the witness that Jesus wants us to give to the world.
