“He who sent Me is with me, because I always do what pleases him.” Jn. 8:21-30
Jesus speaks clearly and causes discomfort. He tells his listeners that He comes from on high and that they remain locked into a way of thinking that does not open to God. The real problem is not in not knowing Jesus, but in not believing that he comes from the Father. Jesus reveals that the deepest sin is to reject the life that God offers. Without faith, human beings are trapped in their own limits.
He also leaves a promise: when He is “lifted up,” that is, on the cross, who He is will be fully revealed. And the Father’s love will be revealed, as well. “He who sent me is with me, because I always do what pleases him.” The cross, seemingly a failure, becomes a place of revelation and salvation.
