Your Father knows what you need before you ask him. (Mt. 6:7-15)
In today’s gospel, Jesus gives us the Our Father. Because we typically recite that prayer daily, it is easy to let the words pass from one ear and out the other, yet the words are profound. The words begin by directing us to the Father; not just the Father, but our Father. This confirms our identity as his children, making us brothers and sisters and as such, we are to forgive the trespasses of others as we are forgiven. It is in this Father that we are to have complete trust for what we need today, not tomorrow or next week, but today. Part of this trust is that we ask for the grace that we not fail or succumb to evil. May we take the time to pray the Our Father with the depth that Christ invited his disciples.
