The relationship between religion and life. Mk. 3:1-6

Mark’s account is significant, and the scene takes place in the synagogue on a Sabbath day. We are, therefore, in a place and a day that must be oriented towards God. Jesus’ gaze is fixed on a man with a paralysis in his arm, to whom He says: “Get up and stand in the midst.” The Pharisees lie in wait for him: Isn’t it a provocation to place a sick person in the center of the synagogue and that on the Sabbath? Isn’t it putting man in the place of God? Jesus challenges them all: “What is to be done; fulfill the law or cure this man?” They are silent, but Jesus makes his message clear: God always wants life, the liberation of his children, so a religion that ignores human suffering is false. Let us pray today for the grace to risk our lives for the fullness of what is human.
