“His name is John.” Luke 1, 57-66
Today we contemplate the Birth of John the Baptist, a story full of unexpected changes that reveal how God interrupts what is established to open new paths. The boy does not receive the name of his father, Zechariah, but the one that God has ordained; Isabel speaks up, Zechariah confirms her words, and his voice—previously silenced—resonates again as a sign of fidelity and faith. Around them, the neighbors contemplate with amazement this novelty that transforms everyday life. God’s passage through our lives also introduces ruptures, surprises and new paths. An authentic personal conversion becomes visible in gestures of love, justice, and trust that renew the community. Does this passage encourage us to begin or return to paths of conversion in our lives? What new things do we discover in the world that are reasons for hope?
