Lk. 18:1-8: “We must pray always and not lose heart.”
Jesus teaches the need to pray always, without being discouraged because praying is not magic, nor is it about God surrendering to our repeated requests. Rather, persevering prayer keeps us open to God’s action, strengthens us in faith, and makes us capable of waiting with hope.
The widow represents the poor, those who have no power or influence, but who trust in justice. She insists, insists and does not give up until the judge grants her justice. Their strength is not in human power, but in their perseverance. It seems that the center of all is not only prayer, but also the faith that sustains prayer. It is not enough to ask; it is necessary to believe and trust, even when it seems that God is delaying. Constancy transforms us, gives us patience, teaches us to see with God’s eyes.
