Sixth week of Easter

“You will have a Joy that no one can take away from you.” John 16:20-23

Today’s Gospel continues to speak of Joy, and we can do no less when we meditate on it and try to apply it to our lives. Joy is not a minor or unimportant attitude in the Christian life, but a constitutive and essential element. Joy is not a momentary experience, much less a superficial one; It is the Christian life itself that is characterized by this feeling. It is the certainty of presence because the Lord never abandons his own. It is the best reason for our HOPE because the light of the Resurrection is what enables us to never lower our arms in our striving. And it is the light of the Resurrection that enables us to be faithful in our love for the Lord. Life in general is not always a succession of moments of happiness and joy. In our own life,  there are illnesses, separations, conflicts, arduous work…there are moments of routine, of doing the same thing. All this is part of life and, therefore, part of the Life of the Christian. Today we can ask ourselves: How do we live Easter Joy in the midst of the indifference and forgetfulness of God?
