January 15—Mark 1:29-39

He cured many who were sick

Jesus is having a busy day healing and preaching.  The first healing of the day is Peter’s mother-in-law. Jesus touches her hand, and she is healed of her fever.  Her encounter with Christ results in an immediate response of serving others. She serves as an example of how we should respond.

The rest of the day Jesus continued to heal those brought to him.  The impact was immense as Mark notes that “the whole town was gathered at the door.” It must have been a tiring day as Jesus ends it by going off to a deserted place. There, he spends time in prayer and then moves on to the nearby villages to preach.  We, too, must continually take that time in daily prayer to grow in our relationship with Christ and renew our purpose and mission.
