“I say to you, arise” (Luke 7:11-17)
Jesus, in the passage of the widow of Nain, manifests his humanity in concrete attitudes that He invites us to live. 1. When He sees her, He feels compassion for her. Let us open our eyes to the reality of poverty and marginalization, abandonment and loneliness, in which so many brothers and sisters live, and let us allow ourselves to be affected and moved to help. 2. Jesus comforts her and tells her: “Don’t cry.” We are called to give a word of encouragement to those who are sick or in anguish, to encourage others in the face of difficulties, to sow hope. 3. He approached where they were. He calls us to go out of ourselves to meet those who need help or company. 4. He touched the coffin and said to the young man, “Get up.” Let us leave behind our fears and risk raising up those who have fallen, drug addicts, those who have been condemned, those who have lost the meaning of life. Do you risk being a prophet?
