“Because of me.” Mt. 10:34-11:1
Jesus appears in today’s text in a way that is difficult to comprehend. First He affirms that He did not come to bring peace but war, then He expresses that whoever loves his father or mother more than him, is not worthy of him and finally He says that, if we are not willing to take up our cross and follow him, we will not be with him either.
Among all that He expresses, there is a word of hope, and that is that whoever gives his life for the Kingdom, even if he loses it, will gain it. Being at His side, fighting all the battles that arise on a daily basis so that justice, love and peace are established in our world, will make sense if we do it for Him.
It is, therefore, worth asking ourselves, as Saint Ignatius suggests: What have I done for Christ? What am I doing for Christ? What shall I do for Christ?
