“The Spirit said to Philip…”

Deacon Philip was able to evangelize a stranger in the short period of a journey. The whole passage is an exemplary story, above all, of Philip listening to the Spirit, but also of Philip listening to the eunuch, and the eunuch listening. The Christian community, which Jesus left entrusted to a group of simple, fearful disciples, with no other preparation than having known and followed Jesus, grew and spread in space and time, in a way that can only be explained by the action of the Spirit in Jesus’ disciples. Jesus fulfilled His promise to send them the Spirit. And they learned to listen to the Spirit, to let themselves be guided by Him. And they taught Him to the second generation. Felipe is one of them. Let us savor today’s text and ask for ourselves, for the Church, for all those whom God calls, the grace to be attentive to listening to the Spirit.
